Above are a few icons I designed for fun. An aspect of icon design that I find fascinating is how much you can simplify or take away and still have the sign understood. A different level of communication exists in the world of pictograms and symbols that traverses language, and it is interesting too to think of the interpretations of signs within and without the context that we have set up.
I proposed the sets of icons above (symbolizing vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options) for the menu design of “Le Garage,” a local restaurant in Baltimore that embodied a moderately vintage aesthetic with a nod to old automobile repair shops. This work was done while I was interning with Exit10.
